Our Story

What began as a traditional shoemaker's shop in 1918 by Mr. Weeren has grown over the past century into the leading specialist in laces. Since 1956 , the business has been owned by the Versteeg family, where craftsmanship and down-to-earth entrepreneurship have been passed down from generation to generation.

In 1989, John took over the helm. A true craftsman, he remained true to his craft, but also saw new opportunities. In 2001, he began selling around thirty types of laces: cut from a roll and finished with metal finger tips. Simple, durable, and precisely tailored. No frills, but quality you wouldn't find in stores.

As demand in the store grew, the idea arose to offer laces online as well. In 2004, our first webshop launched under the name vetersopmaat.nl . Every year, the product range – and customer base – grew. Around 2014 , Bálint joined the team, bringing a fresh perspective and a focus on innovation. He helped modernize our webshop and stay on top of the latest trends.

In 2015, we reached a new milestone: acquiring the domain name veters.nl . This expanded our reach and our offerings – now around 150 different types of roll laces.

But it didn't stop there.

In 2018 , we launched vetergroothandel.nl , specifically for shoemakers and shoe stores. We wanted to support our fellow professionals and further expand our product range. That same year, we permanently closed the shoemaker's shop and continued under a new name: Dé Veterwinkel . This physical store operated successfully alongside our online stores for several years.

Due to continued growth and a shift to online, we decided to close our physical store in 2023. Since then, we've been operating entirely online – more efficiently, quickly, and flexibly than ever before.

We've since moved twice to larger premises. With a small, dedicated team, we now supply over 600 different types of laces . Still off the roll. Still custom-made. And still with attention to detail.

We are The Lace Shop – artisanal, specialist and surprisingly versatile.

Whether you need one pair, a whole box, or a roll of a hundred meters – we'll make sure it fits.
