The harvested bark provides a versatile plant-based fiber for endless applications, while the tree immediately begins its next 9-year growth cycle toward a new harvest!
By using cork, the cork forests (Montados) in Portugal remain well managed by people who have built up immense know-how over centuries. Cork oaks from which bark is harvested absorb up to 3 to 5 times more CO₂ than cork oaks that are not harvested! These cork forests form a truly unique ecosystem in the world.
